For explorations with musical instruments or animals in your own backyard, look no further! Homeschool Science Club announces the opening of the 2011-2012 sessions at Creative Discovery Museum. Homeschool Science Club sessions will be held on Thursdays from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. from September through May. Enrollment is now open.

Homeschool Science club integrates science topics and hands-on activities with group interaction and exploration time in the Museum. From exploring the science of sound to defying gravity, Homeschool Science Club combines fun activities with in-depth science lessons throughout the school year. Creative Discovery Museum offers this unique opportunity for homeschool students ages 5 – 12.

“The Homeschool Science Club gives kids that are homeschooled the unique opportunity to work together with their peers on solving science ‘mysteries’, exploring scientific topics, plus spending time in the Museum,” stated Lynne Mulligan, Senior Programs Manager at Creative Discovery Museum. “Kids will have a great deal of fun while learning about topics they already find interesting.”

The four-week session topics include:

October: In Your Backyard – Bats, Spiders and Snakes—oh, my! Explore the living world right in your own backyard.

November: Good Vibrations – Explore how the science of sound relates to music and instruments. Experiment with conductors and insulators as well as the open and closed circuits while learning about electricity and energy.

December: Club will not meet during this month.

January: It’s Not Magic, It’s Science! – All five senses are engaged as students discover that magic requires a strong knowledge and application of science.

February: Matter Matters – See, feel, hear and smell the relationships between states of matter as solids become liquids, liquids become gases, gases become solids and solids become gases.

March: Spring’s Wings and Stings – Learn all about bees, butterflies and other animals that are active in the spring.

April: Movin’ and Groovin’ – Defy gravity, shoot rockets and race objects of differing masses. Use levers, pulleys, wheels and axles, inclined planes, screws and wedges to better understand the relationship between force, load, resistance and work.

May: Out of this World – Explore the solar system constellations and the individual properties of various stars.
