Description:

Mary Helen Robert designs and creates one-of-a-kind hand-crafted jewelry that is organic and sculptural. Her new works, “Art of Sculptural Adornment”, will be displayed during the month of July at In-Town Gallery on Frazier Avenue on the North Shore. Visitors may meet this featured artist at a reception in her honor on Friday, July 10, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

“Being creative and expressing myself through art is at the core of who I am, and this began early in my life.” Mary Helen took her first metalsmithing class while working full-time at the University of Texas School of Law. That experience nurtured an already strong interest in jewelry design and body adornment. She has been creating unique, sculptural jewelry out of metal ever since. Among the varied techniques and materials Mary Helen employs are traditional metalsmithing with sterling silver, fine silver, nickel, copper, brass, and aluminum; work with cold and hot patinas; etching in copper and brass. Most recently Mary Helen has been experimenting with resin and concrete inlays, adding touches of color and texture to her pieces.

“The process of creating jewelry with my hands enriches my everyday life in ways that words don’t adequately express. I know that making art is fundamental to who I am and what I am meant to do. I sincerely hope that each piece brings to others a measure of the joy I found in its creation,” she said in her artist’s statement.
