Description:

Closing out a stellar season, the Patten Performances brings to Chattanooga one of the most inventive musicians of his generation, 26-year-old phenom Chris Thile. Thile has changed the mandolin forever, elevating it from its origins as a folk and bluegrass instrument to the sophistication and brilliance of the finest jazz improvisation and classical performance. For more than 15 years, he played in the wildly popular band Nickel Creek, with whom he released 3 albums for a combined 2 million records sold, was awarded a Grammy, and traveled the world on sold-out concert tours.

Within a year of their formation, Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile are playing to sold-out crowds across the US and completing their second recording project. Their first album, How to Grow a Woman from the Ground, was released to great critical acclaim and received a Grammy nomination for the song “The Eleventh Reel.” In March 2007, they premiered “The Blind Leaving the Blind,” a long-form, four-movement chamber suite composed by Thile, at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall, which has just been released on Nonesuch Records.
