The first annual Bessie Smith Heritage Festival will kick off on Saturday, August 23 at 2:30 pm with an opening activity, “A Tribute to Bessie” Jazz and Blues lecture demonstration in the Bessie Smith Hall at 2:30 p.m. with blues artist Vasti Jackson and Jazz artist Joe Johnson and others.
Concerts will be held following the opening activity from 3:30 pm to midnight on the grounds of the museum. The festival’s entertainment includes not only Ruben Studdard, but also R&B crooner, Calvin Richardson; internationally acclaimed blues artist, Vasti Jackson; Nashville’s contemporary jazz saxophonist, Joe Johnson; Birmingham’s “Just a Few Cats” and Chattanooga’s own world beat band Ogya.
Tickets for this music filled day are $25 in advance and $35 at the gate. Tickets may be purchased online or at one the of the following ticket outlets:
