Join the Benwood Foundation, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the Community Research Council for a lecture by Fred Kent, founder and president of Project for Public Spaces, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Fred Kent is the fourth and final speaker in the 2007-2008 George T. Hunter Lecture Series.

Fred Kent is a leading authority on revitalizing city spaces and one of the foremost thinkers in livability, smart growth and the future of the city. As founder and president of Project for Public Spaces, he is dedicated to helping people create and sustain public places that build communities. Each year, Kent and the Project for Public Spaces train 10,000 people in Placemaking techniques.

Kent’s lecture will focus on the art of placemaking and building successful public spaces. He will explore the 11 key elements in transforming public spaces—from parks to sidewalks to indoor spaces—into vibrant community places.

The lecture is open to the public and admission is free. It will be held in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, which is located inside the UTC Fine Arts Center at the corner of Vine Street and Palmetto Street.
