Description:

In-Town Gallery is proud to present accomplished photographer Virginia Webb’s emotional series of photographs capturing the application of a Passion Flower tattoo across dancer Ann Law’s chest following the diagnosis of breast cancer and resulting double mastectomy. The exhibit and silent auction will run through the month of March. Gallery visitors can meet the artist at a special "First Friday" reception on March 7, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

"What happens to us is not nearly as important as how we overcome it," is Ms. Webb’s philosophy. In 1989, Ms. Webb suffered a catastrophic auto accident in Pakistan. Her portfolio of photographs provided suggestive images for hypnosis that allowed her to endure burn debridements and a skin graft procedure without anesthesia or pain medication. When Ms. Webb heard about Ann Law’s plan to use a tattoo and a dance performance to aid in her healing process with breast cancer, she immediately felt a strong connection and wanted to find a way to participate.

Ms. Webb will be donating a portion of the silent auction proceeds to the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. More information about Y-ME can be found at www.y-me.org.

This collaborative effort with dancer Ann Law, film documentarist Jarrod Whaley, visual artist Mary Petruska, and tattoo artist Skip Cisto portrays the power of all the arts in the healing of the body, mind and spirit. This exhibit is presented in conjunction with "Passion Flower", a multi media performance at Barking Legs Theater. Show times are Thursday, March 6; Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at 8:00 pm.
